Lighthouse Health and Education was founded by husband and wife team Wayne and Jane Franke in response to the need for further psychological and educational services in the Coffs Harbour region. Together they have over 50 years of experience working with children, young people and their families.
Jane Franke - Registered Psychologist
Jane has over 19yrs experience working with children, adolescents and their families in primary and secondary schools, high needs behavioural intervention settings and private practice.
She has completed a Masters degree in Child and Adolescent Welfare and specialist training in the assessment and counselling of children and adolescents on issues such as depression, anxiety, behavioural disorders, trauma, self harm and suicidal ideation.
Jane has extensive experience with psychoeducational assessment and working with individuals living with neurodevelopmental disorders including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), intellectual disabilities and specific learning difficulties (dyslexia).
As a mother of two, she also enjoys working with parents to increase their parenting confidence and to improve their emotional connection with their children.
Wayne Franke - I Can Read - Educator
Wayne has taught in both Primary and Secondary Schools and has a Master of Education.
He has operated the I Can Read Total Literacy Centre for 6 years, providing students and adults with the skills necessary to reach their potential in both an increasingly challenging and demanding educational system as well as the work place.
Wayne's philosophy is that reading is essential to our lives and the necessary skills required to be a confident and competent reader need to be developed effectively.
He believes that the total literacy approach of the I Can Read System offers the most efficient pathway to the development of lifelong reading skills.
The programme's focus on phonemic awareness enables the student to understand the relationship between letters and sounds. This is crucial in the process of decoding (breaking down) unfamiliar words.
The programme moves from the initial pre literacy stage through to the advanced language and literacy levels. It caters for those who are experiencing difficulties with reading through to those students who want to extend both their understanding and proficiency of language.
Monika Magar - provisional psychologist
Monika is a Provisional Psychologist who has recently joined our practice at Lighthouse Health and Education where she will complete her psychologist registration internship program.
Monika graduated from Western Sydney University with a Bachelor of Psychology in 2016. She is passionate about mental health, and empowering others to achieve independence in supporting their own mental health on a daily basis. Monika has a client-centred therapeutic approach with a strong interest in helping people experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression. She is also developing her skills in assessment and intervention for clients (particularly children) living with disability.
Being from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background, Monika is keen to help CALD clients with a range of issues, providing an empathetic approach through personal understanding of the issues that CALD people face. She is available to assist private clients to work through personal issues, family issues, career transitions and workplace conflict.
Monika’s personal experience as a mother has led to a strong interest in the neurological factors underlying behaviours presenting in the early years of childhood. She looks forward to providing supportive psycho-education to parents and to enhancing the parenting-child relationship through a range of evidence based strategies.
Monika is available to work directly with NDIS participants (self-managed and plan managed only).
